The Associated Press is reporting that Missouri's republican-led legislature hopes to send Governor Jay Nixon a bill this week to redraw congressional districts based on the 2010 Census.
The session doesn't end until May 13, but some republicans are acting with urgency because they want to position themselves for a potential override attempt if the democratic governor vetoes the bill.
Governor Nixon has not said whether he will.
Meanwhile, Missouri House members are taking an unusual break with less than a month remaining in the legislative session.
House leaders canceled the standard Monday afternoon session.
The abbreviated legislative work week comes when house leaders sought a formal negotiation between the two chambers, but the senate did not respond before adjourning last week.
