Car, dump truck head-on collision near Mexico results in one death
A Louisiana, Mo., man died Monday morning as the result of a head-on collision with a dump truck near Mexico.
According to the Mexico Public Safety Department, at approximately 6:00 Monday morning, a passenger vehicle driven by 27-year-old Domonique Powell of Louisiana crossed the center line on the U.S. 54 bypass about one mile south of Liberty Street, where it struck a dump truck head on.
Both vehicles caught fire, but the driver of the dump truck, 46-year-old Jason Nelson of Jefferson City, was able to get out of his vehicle before the passenger compartment caught. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic on the Highway 54 bypass was closed for about four hours due to the crash.
