Each month, KRCG 13 will be honoring those giving back to our community.

We want to introduce you to our Jefferson Awards recipient for July, Chrissy Bolin.

"I think that's what we were put here on earth to do, is to help other people," Chrissy said.

In october 2015 she participated in Project Homeless Connect with her work.

It's an event to help homeless and at risk individuals in Cole County and surrounding areas.

That's when chrissy says she realized homelessness is a big problem in the area and she wanted to do something to help.

"Some of them are by choice, they don't want to follow rules or whatever, but a lot of them just got dealt a bad hand," she said.

She created the facebook page "People Helping People".

It's a group which collects donated items and gives them to people in need.

"That December, we made up a bunch of bags with toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and stuff and handed them out, outside the library," Chrissy said. "So then in January we reserved the library room and it just kind of blew up from there."

Eight individuals in need came to People Helping People's first event.

During their event in May, they helped more than 65.

"They're so appreciative, they don't want to ask for certain items but you know what they need and they're grateful," Chrissy said.

The next People Helping People event will be in late September or early October.

"I feel bad for people," Chrissy said. "We take things for granted. I mean, we can get up in the morning, we can take a shower, we can eat breakfast, clean clothes... These people wear the same clothes, they don't have anywhere to lay their head at night, the things we take for granted everyday... Somebody needed to help them. There's just so much negative in the world, it's just good to throw out a little positive love."

Chrissy said at the next event in late September or early October they will need items such as jackets, blankets, longjohns, jeans and long sleeved shirts so people can stay warm in the winter months.

She also said tents, sleeping bags and pillows are also in demand so people can have a place to stay overnight.
